Calories Aren’t the Only Thing that Make You Fat
So why isn’t weight management this simple? And how many of us really count the calories we eat and how many calories we burn?
There are many, many components that cause weight gain. Here are 10 startling ways we gain weight, in addition to the calories consumed vs. calories burned theory.
Too little fat in our diet. Essential fatty acids, also known as the omega-3 and omega-6 good fats, which we find in flaxseeds, fish, nuts and seeds, truly are essential. Good fats sustain the body’s metabolic rate. The higher our metabolic rate, the more calories we burn doing average daily activities.
Indigestion. When you do not properly break down the food you feed it, that food will get stored as fat. Poor digestion is a primary culprit in weight gain, particularly for those who have a reasonable diet.
Allergies to certain foods. Allergies create internal side effects that are known to directly and indirectly contribute to weight gain. Bloating and swelling in the digestive system does not prompt fat production, but it will enlarge your waistline.
Overproduction of insulin. A little known condition that affects 25% of the population, insulin resistance causes the body to overproduce insulin in order for the insulin to be effective. Since insulin signals the body to metabolize glucose in the blood instead of fat, excess amounts of insulin will contribute to the body to store fat, even when the fat might otherwise be burned for energy.
Body toxicity. Our fat cells store dietary and environmental toxins as well as excess toxins produced from metabolic activity in the body. If you are trying to lose weight, by all means, do a body detoxification program. Here’s an excellent resource for doing a natural safe body detox.
