NTRP Rating Written Description and Evaluators Comments

1.5 - 2.0 You could describe yourself as a inexperienced player. You do know how to serve and hit points but you haven’t got any game consistency. You hopefully have figured how to keep score. You basically know the game of tennis and want to meet up with other people who have the same love.

2.5 Needs on-court tennis experience. Has tennis stroke failings but is use to with basic locations for singles and doubles play. 2.5 Learning to judge where the ball is going although tennis court coverage is less than adequate. Can maintain a short rally of slow pace with other players of the same ability.
Admin Comments: Recreational division, About 10% of the tennis players are in this skill level. You’re an advanced beginner in this category. We hope the minimum ability tennis players have is to be able to serve and maintain a couple stroke rally.

3.0 Somewhat consistent when hitting mid-paced tennis shots, but is not comfortable with all shots and misses execution when trying for guiding control, depth or power.

3.25 You’re in-between 3.0 and 3.5 Tennis Skill ranking.

3.5 Has accomplished improved tennis stroke reliability with directional control on light strokes, but still misses depth and variety. Starting to present more competitive net play, has improved court coverage.

3.75 You’re in-between 3.5 and 4.0 Skill rating.

4.0 Has dependable tennis strokes, including leading control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on average tennis shots, plus the ability to use lobs, overheads, approach strokes and volleys with some success. Occasionally pulls errors when serving.
Admin Comments: Advanced1 division, About 20% of the tennis players are in this division. Rusty tennis players should start off in the Competitive skill level first. Scores are closely supervised by the league for Purity of Competition Rules.

4.5 Masters the use of power and spins and beginning to handle pace, has good footwork, can control depth of strokes and is beginning to vary game plan according to opponents. Can hit first serves with power and accuracy and place the second serve. Tends to over hit on difficult shots.
