The story of Steve Schwarzman is one of success and hard work. Recently Steve was named as the 53rd most wealthy person in the country written by Forbes Magazine, but it’s his tremendous accomplishments in the business and finance sector and his donations to non-profit organizations that make this story something special. In the ’80s Steve and his business partner founded their firm extending financial advice to the American public. Nowadays the Blackstone Group is an industry giant engaging in holdings as qualified as La Quinta and Legoland, to name only two of them.
Steve spent his childhood in the suburbs of Philadelphia. When he graduated from high school he went on to study further at the world renowned Yale University and was awarded his bachelor’s degree in 1969. He set about taking a program of post-graduate study at the internationally esteemed Harvard Business school near Boston, MA. Then he commenced his career at Lehman Brothers investment bank, situated in New York, New York. Stephen was appointed to the board of directors at the very precocious age of thirty one.
Stephen A. Schwarzman donates to a range of educational programs as well as consulting as an adjunct professor at the prestigious Yale School of Management. To further illustrate his wide spectrum of engagement, he is the fifth Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. On top of all that, Steve just last spring presented to the New York Public Library $100 million to help fund their recent expansion program. Steve is also one of the trustees of the library.
You won’t be too surprised to learn, the elite of America look to Steve as a role model — Times Magazine last year appointed him as one of the 100 most influential people on earth. His rise in the business and financial communities has certainly been miraculous, and coupled with his readiness to donate to the community through his generous gifts to the arts and education programs sets a precedent for those who are following his example. So the world waits in anticipation to see what Steve will do next. All in all, Stephen A. Schwarzman has made an enormous difference to both the financial space and the world generally.
