Here is Stephen Schwarzman’s story. Last year Stephen was named the 53rd wealthiest person in the United States by Forbes Magazine, still it is his astounding generosity to non profit organizations and his unbelievable business accomplishments that make him such a captivating character. In the 1980’s he founded the Blackstone Group with Peter Peterson, initially as a private-equity management and financial advisory company. The Blackstone Group has since grown from strength to strength and is now leading the world in mergers and acquisitions.
Stephen grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia. After graduating from high school he went on to study further at the influential Yale University in Connecticut and got his degree in 1969. He took on a program of post graduate study at the illustrious Harvard Business school near Boston, MA. Next he became part of the team at the renowned investment bank Lehman Brothers. By his 32nd birthday he was already a managing director. Stephen A. Schwarzman served as an ancillary professor at the well esteemed Yale School of Business Management and also offers his patronage to a number of charitable organizations, educational programs, and the arts. He serves as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. Furthermore, Stephen recently gave the New York Public Library a hundred million dollars to sponsor their building plans. In fact the NYPL called their new extension the “Stephen A. Schwarzman Building”. Stephen is an inspiration to successful Americans — last year he was identified amongst Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People on earth in acknowledgement of his many achievements. His swift rise in the financial sector is nothing short of miraculous, and no doubt his willingness to donate to the community has provided business tycoons with a new standard to live by.
With his wisdom and commitment, it appears as if there is nothing he cannot achieve. On the whole, Stephen A. Schwarzman has, in retrospect, had a remarkable influence on the business community and the world at large.
