Poker Parties: the Loser’s Lounge
Among the many details that should be considered when hosting a poker party, there is one that is almost always neglected-the loser’s lounge.
Just because it’s a game doesn’t mean that poker isn’t big investment of time as well as money. Most poker games go on for several hours, and people that come have freed up an entire evening to make it. Don’t make them go home early just because they’ve gotten some bad hands or misplayed their cards.
Give your guests a reason to stick around after you’ve knocked them out of the game. Have an area set up with food and chairs and a To go along with poker’s interactive nature, try to steer clear of a movie. It’ll slow down the action in the room and distract the guys who are still in the game, anyway. Try these instead:
Televised Sports-If there’s a game on TV, your job’s done-it’s entertainment and a conversation piece all in one. Lounge lizards can cheer on their team, argue over sports minutiae, and try to forget about their lousy poker night.
Video Games-Try to have another competition going on-a video gaming system works well. My X-Box 360 has come in very handy, with competitive, fast-paced multiplayer games like Fight Night or the Halo series. The speedy gameplay keeps the night exciting and the guys who aren’t playing poker can have some entertainment as well.
The details are what separate the good poker parties from the great ones. Make sure that yours are part of the latter.
