Sunglasses at Night or the Poker Table?
The growth of televised poker over the past few years has given amateur players all over the globe a glimpse at the poker prowess of professional players. While we get to watch their technique and ability as players, we also get to see what they wear at the poker table and one trend that seems to have taken over is sunglasses. Eyes have been called the “windows to the soul” and many players will watch the other poker players’ eyes to try to obtain information. As a result, many players began wearing dark sunglasses to prevent other players from seeing their eyes.
Are they really necessary? Generally information you might give away with your eyes you will likely give away with other parts of your body as well. Some players naturally have a good “poker face” and are able to conceal their emotions well, while others will display repetitive visible behaviors when they have a good or bad hand. If you’re one of the latter, investing in a cheap pair of sunglasses might be right up your alley. Even if they don’t disguise all of your possible tells, they may give you more confidence and make you feel more comfortable at the table, allowing you to play a better poker game. Of course, if we’re talking online poker, you can play in your PJ’s!
