Corporate ERP Of The Next Decade: Microsoft/Unix/Java - Coex

While in 1990th we saw very fierce fighting between Microsoft Windows and Apple Computer PowerMac for the workstations market, when two systems were practically not compatible and didn’t have plans to understand each other, plus all the blends of Unix/Linux were trying to step in and take workstation market over, the next decade in our opinion will be the decade of coexistence, integration, cross-platform heterogeneous data distribution and querying. Good example would be this - imagine you are freight forwarder and your company has Microsoft Business Solutions Great Plains implemented as accounting and partly distribution application and on the other hand you have Oracle based cargo delivery / tracking system. You do not have to phase out one or the other - you make them coexist: if you need Great Plains user to lookup shipment status - you use heterogeneous query from MS SQL Server (Great Plains) to Oracle via linked server and have instant result set on the screen. Similar heterogeneous query you can have from Oracle side to MS SQL Server. Let’s look at the trends:

• XML - is platform independent way to communicate: transfer inbound/outbound streams of data. This is the sign of future coexistence and it is very simple in reading and understanding by human being
• IT Budget. Evolution versus Revolution: the old days of restructuring your company business operation around new computer system are probably over. Nowadays IT budget is pretty limited and corporate management considers IT as regular (not elite) internal services department. So - you, as IT manager or director has limited resources to revolutionize the company, so you follow the step-by-step evolution.

• The sunset of proprietary languages. Good example is Great Plains Dexterity - this is the core of recent Microsoft Great Plains, former Great Plains Dynamics. Dexterity had the history of evolution, and now it is using SQL Stored procs to do the majority of database querying and updating, Microsoft plans to phase it slowly out and replace with the future .Net language of choice (not sure which one will win: C# or VB.Net - but this is not important at this moment). In the close future SQL with XML inbound/outbound will be the language of integrations.

• The end of heavy custom programming. At least in the US - majority of the project will be outsourced. In the USA we will be mostly dealing with project management and specifications writing, plus physical hardware support. Even if you are dealing with, say Microsoft Business Solutions partner in San Francisco - partner itself will be using either overseas facility or simply contractors over there. When the majority of us will become project managers, thinking about business logic, not the way of realizing it in the code - we will stop heating the opposite platform -no more Microsoft VB.Net programmer hatred toward Java/EJB/J2EE programmer

We are already doing cross platform integrations from Microsoft Business Solutions products: Microsoft CRM, Great Plains to Oracle, DB2, Lotus and other databases, plus Microsoft CRM email messaging through Lotus Domino to begin realize the strategy.

Cell Phones–The Increasingly Indispensable “Luxury” Gadgets

Millions of people in the U.S. and around the globe use cell phones. They are such great gadgets–with a cell phone you can talk to anyone on the planet from just about anywhere! Once thought of as an expensive, distracting “toy”, cell phones have become a necessity for many people around the world. In just a few short years, cell phones have graduated from being considered a luxury to an absolute necessity. The ability to keep in touch with friends, family, business associates, and access to email are only a few reasons for the increasing importance of cell phones.

When cell phones were first introduced, they were heavy, bulky and expensive. Good reception was a major problem and battery life was severely limited. These days, cell phones provide an incredible array of functions, and new models are being added at a breakneck pace. Depending on your cell-phone model, you can: store contact information, make to-do lists, use the built-in calculator, download information from the Internet, play simple games, and even listen to music.

Camera cell phones are one of the newest and neatest pieces of pocket technology on the market. Camera cell phones have benefited from the ever-shrinking microchip technology, making the phones more affordable and the pictures more viewable. If you want to purchase a camera phone, consider the quality of the pictures you want to take. Most camera phones have less than one mega pixel resolution which produces low-quality images. If you really need to take clear photos, check out a camera phone with 3 or more mega pixels. And always buy one with a removable memory card which will allow you to upgrade the camera’s memory capacity and allow you to more easily transfer photos to a computer or printer.

Selecting a cell phone is no longer just about communication–it is now a lifestyle choice. If you don’t get one to fit your personality, you won’t be satisfied. Text messaging or “texting” in now a standard feature on most cell phones. Multimedia messaging allows you to send audio, video and pictures. Some of the newer phones are designed with entertainment as a primary function. They can play music MP3 files, stored video, movies and even video games. Random House hopes to cash in on the cell phone phenomenon by offering foreign language courses using cell phone text.

And more changes are on the way! “Charge it to my cell phone,” is an instruction that store clerks may soon hear in increasing numbers. Phones that can be swiped against credit card readers are already on sale in Asia and U.S. cell phone manufacturers are seriously studying the technology. A new report from the Diffusion Group, a consumer technology think-tank, shows that most consumers are comfortable playing music and videos on their cell phones and that more than 30% of the U.S. consumers surveyed wanted to watch TV on their cell phones as well. According to the survey, more than 70% of U.S. households now own at least one cell phone.

When it comes to buying a cell phone there are several ways to compare makes and models. Just like when buying a car, there are countless options, models and prices from which to choose. Talking to a sales rep in a cell store seems to be a good way to compare phones, but that is not always the case. They are going to try to steer you towards a certain brand or model because their commission may depend on it, and they may have limited knowledge of the various manufacturers and service providers.

Checking online reviews from customers is a great way to research cell phones. Doing research in magazines such as Consumer Reports will probably give you some valuable information about specific models. Talking to friends is always a reliable way to research different products. Since most of your friends and family probably have a cell phone, you’ll be able to get reliable information about phone models and service plans. You can learn from their mistakes or follow their lead and use what they’re using.

Once you have your phone, the next step is choosing a service provider or carrier. You need not rush into anything when choosing a cellular phone provider. Remember when there was only one phone company? Thanks in part to technology, cellular phone providers are working hard to improve service and reception in all areas. There is now so much competition, that with just a little research, you can find the exact plan that specifically fits your needs. Are there major concerns about a service provider other than price? According to Consumer Reports, dropped calls and misleading billing are the leading irritants for cell phone customers.

The importance of cell phones has increased the competition in the wireless service provider industry, making cell phones affordable, dependable and easy to use. Cell phones have gone from an elite status symbol to a reliable convenience which provides information and security.

With the exponential increase in the number of people using cell phones, it is more important to understand how to use your phone without being obnoxious or irritating. For example, it is a good idea to put your cell phone on vibrate (rather than ring) when in restaurants, theaters, churches, weddings and funerals. As for ring tones, not everyone appreciates being bombarded with Creedance Clearwater Revival or Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. Suggestion– use the vibrate feature in all public places.

Shopping for Magazines Online

When purchasing subscriptions online expect to save a significant percentage off the cover price, but expect to the price offered to be the exact same on all the major sites. Pricing on magazine subscriptions have a fixed minimum price and the vast majority of legitimate retailers will charge exactly that minimum price. Choose the website to purchase from based on features such as additional features (such as available gift cards and renewal reminders) and based on which site you are confident you can trust. Be aware that some sites will automatically charge you for a renewal if they don’t hear from you when it’s time for renewal. If that’s not what you’d like, read the companies policies clearly.

Processing Time
Most publishers use mail processing centers which print address labels for several issues at a time. Labels for new orders are generally not printed until the next run of labels. Additionally, most magazines are printed well in advance of shipping, and each printing is pre-allocated only to the amount of subscribers at the actual time of printing. As a result, the magazine industry has a standard “lead time” for subscriptions of 4 to 8 weeks for weekly magazines and 8 to 12 weeks for monthly magazines and quarterly subscriptions although these times do vary by different publication.
If you haven’t received the first issue of your subscription within the expected period times, you can often check the magazine’s web site for your order status.
Ordering for the holidays
Magazines are a popular late holiday gift because the receiver doesn’t expect an issue in-hand at gift giving time. Many magazine websites send a card with gift subscriptions, so there is something to fill the stocking.

The most popular magazine gift ideas for men are men’s magazines and fitness magazines. For women, vacation magazines are the most popular gift and for children, puzzles and animal related magazines top the gift list.

That WOW Moment!

For many years I sought out alternatives to trading my time for
someone else’s money. That’s because I am fully aware that the
more I do this the more my entire life and lifestyle is
determined by someone other than me. I grew up in a family that
was very entrepreneurial. My father owned many businesses and my
mom owned her own business as well. I knew that if I ever wanted
to be truly free that I would not only have to have my own
business, but that I would have to own one that did not put me
in the role of babysitter. I needed to grow a large company and
remove myself from the creation of my income and pay others to
work for me or otherwise find a way to remove myself from the
creation of my income. This is exactly what folks who start
their own companies and grow them to self sustaining entities
do.

Then one day someone showed me another way to accomplish the
very same objectives. What was it? Well it was one of those
pyramid things. So I promptly blew it off. I watched as my
friend Tom, who showed me this opportunity, went on to earn
millions and become a multi-millionaire. Just 5 short years
later he was basically retired with a huge income that continued
to pour in. All the while folks who knew Tom were saying
negative things about him both to his face and behind his back.
Now Tom makes over 10 million dollars per year and donates
nearly 1 million each year to charities for children and to his
church. He lived by and never changed his values.

After I witnessed this first hand and later became a successful
stock and commodity broker myself I took a more serious look
into this pyramid thing. What I discovered was astonishing and
may shock you. I compared what I found to what my other friend
and I were doing in life at that time. That is when I truly had
my WOW Moment!!

My friend Bob was a Real Estate broker. Now before we get into
the example please ask yourself a sincere question. What do
realtors do when they become successful? Yes I said realtors,
folks who sell houses.

Let me tell you what the successful realtors do. They go off
and become their own real estate brokers and hire other
realtor’s. Right? Yes that’s exactly what they do when they
become successful.

So what happens to the broker, like my friend Bob, who got them
started and paid for them to get trained, shared his call-ins,
walk-ins, advertising, leads, etc… with them?

Tell me what happens to that broker with that investment in
that realtor when that realtor walks out and becomes their own
broker? When that realtor decides to leave and start their own
Real Estate brokerage office does the broker, like Bob, who
helped that new realtor get started in the business get anything
for that? Silly right? Of course the broker doesn’t, and Bob was
in exactly that position. In fact he had effectively trained his
competition when it happened to him not once, but twice in two
years.

Is that what you would call a good business model? Of course
not. Would you want to take on all the overhead of an office,
advertising and marketing, phones, computer systems, marketing,
mailings, etc… and help realtors get trained and started only
to have them go off on their own and become your competition
after you trained them? Foolish question right? Of course you
wouldn’t. This is not a business model that I as a businessman
prefer to become involved with. Nor was it a business model that
my friend Bob enjoyed.

But wait! Why not have incentives for the new realtor to
succeed and become their own broker. Why not have incentives for
them to start their own office and at the same time have
incentives for the broker, like Bob, to encourage them to do
just that? Why not compensate the original broker for helping a
realtor become successful so that the original broker gets a
small percentage from the business when a realtor they have
trained becomes their own broker.

What if the original broker received an ongoing override
(albeit a much smaller percentage) when that realtor becomes a
broker? Maybe we could even provide further incentives for both
Bob, and the new broker Bob just helped to start the new
brokerage office. We could do that by giving both Bob and Bob’s
new broker a small percentage when that new broker helps another
realtor start their own brokerage office?

Wouldn’t that be a true win-win situation? It sure would. Isn’t
that a much better business model? You bet because it is one
where everyone benefits and has a vested interest in helping
others succeed? Further, if I helped more people become brokers
than Bob even though Bob got me started couldn’t I earn more
than Bob? Surely I could. Now that’s a fair compensation plan.
THAT’S MLM!

Let’s look at the business I was in at the time. I was a stock
and commodity broker. The person who ran the office I was in,
Rick, was friends with the regional manager. Rick received
override commissions on the production of the entire office I
was in consisting of over 50 brokers. There was also a regional
manager who received override commissions on the production of
all offices in the region. Then the national sales director
received HUGE bonuses based on the production of the entire
firm. While the CEO cashed huge even fatter checks and the owner
did nothing and was worth several hundred million dollars.

Now, let me ask you, what chance would I ever have from
removing myself from the creation of my income in that scenario?
Could I be the regional manager? Probably not as those were all
buddies of the national sales director or CEO. Would I ever work
my way into becoming the CEO or national sales manager? Highly
unlikely as they were friends of the guy who started the company
and were really appointed positions.

On the other hand had I participated in MLM as my friend Tom
had I could have been sitting on a million dollar per month
residual income that continued to thrive and grow even if I
settled into semi-retirement.

Subsequently I decided to try my hand at a network marketing
opportunity. I quickly found that not only was it challenging
but one absolutely had to do careful examination of the company
behind the opportunity before banking on success. Regardless of
how much time and effort I was willing to put in, that first
foray into MLM was not going to work because I really did not do
my homework and the company eventually went out of business.

As I knew this was a business that could lead to great success,
as evidenced by my friend Tom, I decided to learn all I could
about the business. I went to Tom and he suggested some reading
and also spent many hours with me over lunches and dinners
educating me on network marketing. I learned all about various
compensation plans, I studied all the books and material I could
find that were written by successful MLM professionals. What I
found was that there were several criteria that all the
professionals agreed were necessary for success. I have written
about them in the related article link you will find below.

After a solid understanding of the industry, compensation
plans, and success criteria I again became involved in network
marketing. This time I went in knowing exactly what I was
looking for and what to do to grow my business. The success I
have experienced since can only be defined as incredible. I
found an opportunity that meets all the success criteria that I
learned about.

The company is relatively young, debt free, has a patented
product, a fantastic management and leadership team, a great
compensation plan, loads of research behind their patented
product, tremendous business building tools and technologies are
provided free of charge, a free web site with a very
professional presentation, and it is unquestionably one of the
hottest opportunities on the planet right now! My success has
been nothing short of spectacular and I fully realize that
absolutely anyone can do exactly what I have done which is why I
am writing this little article.

I implore you, if you are seeking an opportunity that can truly
set you free you absolutely must investigate this business
thoroughly. Don’t delay act today, and if you have any questions
feel free to contact me.

So You Want to be President? Learn to Play a Musical Instrument!

President Harry S. Truman, the man in the White House when the United States intervened on behalf of the millions of innocent people who were being displaced and massacred by Hitler’s Nazi Germany, claimed to have practiced his piano lessons for two hours every morning during his childhood. Likewise, President Warren Harding was said to be able to play every instrument except the trombone and the clarinet. Franklin Delano Roosevelt (FDR) played the organ. Of course we all remember President Clinton and his saxophone, but did you know that President Nixon was an accomplished pianist?

And more recently a girl who was a musician long before she became an academic and then a world-famous diplomat, our own globetrotting Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice is a very accomplished classical pianist. As she was growing up in the Rice home music was a family affair, and as early as age 3 Condi played piano at family gatherings. Her Dad was a minister and she often accompanied her organist Mother in church. The name “Condoleezza” is from the Italian phrase con dolcezza, which refers to playing music “with sweetness.” While other kids in her neighorhood were playing outdoors, she was more likely to be found practicing the piano or reading a book.

The list goes on, but the real question is why do people with musical training tend to achieve more in life? There are differing theories about that, but studies have shown a direct correlation between music and the brain’s ability to adapt to the world around it. One such test showed that people that had listened to just ten minutes of Mozart’s “Sonata for Two Pianos in D Major” and then took a spatio-temporal reasoning test (which is a part of a standardized intelligence test) scored 48% higher than the control group while a second study done at the University of California, Irvine on what has been called the “Mozart Effect” shows a increased IQ score of nine points.

In another study the Bulgarian psychologist George Lozanov discovered that playing Baroque instrumental music in the background had a profound effect on student’s ability to learn and retain a foreign language. The key is that highly structured, highly organized music seems to help the human brain to function in a more organized and efficient manner while further studies have shown that discordant music actually has a negative effect on the brain.

Studying music is the perfect way to derive its benefits. At least one study has shown that young children can gain the spatio-temporal reasoning effects mentioned above just by learning to play the piano or organ. Likewise, through the study of music we have the discipline of practice to expose us to great music regardless of our age. Besides for the effect of the music, studying music teaches discipline and the relationship between hard work and reward and there is little in life more rewarding than to hear beautiful music coming forth as a result of one’s own effort.

“Music education opens doors that help children pass from school into the world around them a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and human involvement. The future of our nation depends on providing our children with a complete education that includes music.” Gerald Ford, former President, United States of America

Temperature Control with Solar Panels

While solar energy is most often associated with the production of electricity, heating is also a major platform. Temperature control is the key to an efficient system.

Temperature Control with Solar Panels

The sun produces a ton of energy, but solar panel systems have historically been very inefficient at converting it. With improving technology, efficiency has improved to the point where most panel systems can easily produce enough energy to heat water for the home and pools. Obviously, controlling the heat production is a key element of this process.

Solar heating control systems come in a variety of forms. Most are designed to work on temperature differential strategies. Temperature differential controls work by using two sensors. The first is located close the panels being used to heat the water or liquid substitute. The second is located on or close to the liquid return valve into the panel system. Put in practical terms, one sensor measures the temperature of liquid set to leave the panel while the other measures the temperature of liquid coming into the panel.

The process works by waiting for temperatures to rise to a temperature determined by you. Once the liquid meets the temperature, the sensors trigger a computer to turn on the circulation pump and move the liquid to the desired location. Once the return valve sensor notes the temperature of the returning water is within a particular range of the liquid in the panel system, the pump is shut off.

Controlling temperature and efficiency is important in any heating system, but particularly in solar platforms. Although particular designs may vary from the above description, they all serve an important function. By regulating temperature, controllers make your panel system much more efficient. Pump use and abuse is cut down and temperature increases are quicker.

Solar solutions are coming to the front of the energy debate for many residences. Countries like Germany are making huge investments in solar platforms and technologies. Solar can be a cost-effective solution for you as well. Just keep in mind that efficiency is a must if you are pursuing solar water heating.

How Credit Card Choices Affect Your Credit Rating

Who doesn’t love a free gift? A person with great credit can many credit card offers in the post! This is because credit card providers use the concept of risk measurement to determine who should receive a credit card. And if your credit rating is good, you seem to be a good risk to the credit card providers.

Many of their offers are very attractive. For example, they may offer you such incredible deals as no annual fees, low interest rates, high limits, and even additional cards for family, or they may give you plenty of extra rewards and limited time offers just for signing up.

While it’s nice to get offers like this in the mail, you probably want to be careful that you shouldn’t jump on each one that comes your way. This can be very dangerous! This is because each card you have increases how much potential debt you have available to use (even if you’re not using it) and that increases the amount of risk you may be in the eyes of the lending institutions.

It’s a dark spiral, really. Your credit is good so you’re thought of as a good risk. Because you’re a good risk you get lots of cards. But because you get lots of cards you’re thought of as a bad risk! Even if you don’t use all of the available credit limit on your cards, the availability is there and that’s what lending institutions look at.

So how do you fix that? First, don’t sign up for every card that comes your way. Thoughtfully select just a few cards that might be good and throw away the other offers. Select a handful of cards that offer low interest rates, a healthy limit (but not too high), and some points or rewards on regular purchases.

And, if you find that your debts have gotten out of hand from excess credit cards, you may want to consider pulling it all together through a debt consolidation loan. A debt consolidation loan gives you the benefit of getting a fixed monthly payment (rather than an unknown variable payment) and a lower interest rate and usually over a longer period of time to repay.

So credit cards aren’t necessarily a bad thing. We need them in this day and age. But what you need to do is approach them thoughtfully, selecting the best and discarding the rest. And if things have gotten out of your control, consolidate your debt to get control of it again.

4d and 3d scans - baby ultrasound.co.uk

The method know as 3d ultrasound scanning is used during early pregnancy, providing 3 d pictures of the fetus. Most of the time the ultrasound pictures are rapidly captured and joined together and animated to created a 4d scan.

Three dimensional scanning works in the same way to the normal ultrasound scanning methods except that the ultrasound scanning pulses are directed from multiple directions. The ultrasound pulses can be redirected back then captured to provide information to construct a 3d picture in much the same way as 3d movies. 3 dimesional ultasound scanning was first developed by olaf von ramm and stephen smith in america.

It is important to understand that sonologists all over the world have always pictured three-dimensional images of anatomy or pathology in their minds while doing their 2d scans. However, until recently it was very difficult to do this kind of reconstruction on patient data acquired using ultasound scanning. With the advent of baby scans for the first time allowed us a view into the thinking of a sonologist and hence letting us see the images on the ultrasound machine.

The 3d/4d ultrasound image should utilize ultrasound energy following the same limits as conventional 2d ultrasound to create the 3d images. There is no data to suggest any harm due to 3d ultrasound, its use in none medical situations should be undertaken with an understanding of the risks that exist.
